We'll come if you let it go. That seems to be the message audiences are now conveying. Either that, or if you release it and it receives a lot of positive reviews, or at least has enough behind-the-scenes drama to raise awareness and keep us intrigued by the mystery idea even if the reviewers don't like it, we will go. For the autumnal season, $50 million has replaced $100 million. For this run of releases, $50 million would really be the old $50 million, and a little of the old would be much appreciated. Back-to-back movies are already vying for it.

Don't worry darling official trailer

There is little doubt that Warner Bros. benefited from the media attention given to the Olivia Wilde film Don't Worry, Darling's backstage drama in terms of advertising. When the public sees internal conflict, it is very different than when they only hear about it. By only giving the movie a 38% Tomatometer score, critics have undoubtedly done that heavy job. However, viewers remained interested and paid close to $20 million on the movie this weekend. That is the second-highest September opening (behind Shang-Chi) since the epidemic began, and assuming the "B-" Cinemascore does not negatively impact it too much, it might result in our second $50 million grosser of the month. So let's look at both figures.

A September opening of $19.2 million with a Tomatometer score of 30 and a "B-"? Another sci-fi mystery starring Julianne Moore, The Forgotten, was released in 2004. A rather high standard to set for Darling at this time, it began with $21 million and ended its run with almost $67 million. The Forgotten's second weekend earnings (with a PG-13 classification) dropped 43%, bringing its running total after 10 days to $38 million from $11.8 million. At this point, Darling would have to significantly underperform in order for it to miss the $50 million ceiling, but the fact that it only grossed $9.5 million of its $19.2 million on Thursday and Friday does not indicate that audiences are very fond of the film.Only four movies, though, have ever debuted in September with $18 million or more and failed to reach $50 million. They were The Rundown, Riddick, Rambo: Last Blood, and Resident Evil: Retribution. Darling, which this weekend earned an additional $10.8 million globally, at least doesn't have a R in its title.
